Pulling off fund-raising

Ernest Henry Operations’ D Crew knows how to pull off a successful fundraising event, with its fifth annual tug-of-war contest raising $60,000 for Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Employees and contractors from Evolution Mining’s Ernest Henry copper-gold operation near Cloncurry joined the event earlier this month.

Last year’s victors proved too strong to beat, with mobile maintenance team ‘Tug Life’ retaining the winners’ title and trophy.

Ernest Henry Operations general manager Jason Floyd congratulated the organisers and teams on
another successful event.

“Once again, D Crew has pulled off another fantastic fundraising tug of war event,” he said.

“The winning team Tug Life may have taken home the trophy – but I think we can all agree the real winners are the children who will benefit from the wishes made possible by this fantastic event.”

Starlight Children’s Foundation partnerships executive Rachel Falwasser praised the fundraising effort.

“This is what true mateship looks like, everybody coming together to help bring joy and hope to seriously ill children. It’s about pulling together – and not just on the rope,” she said.

“We can’t thank the Ernest Henry crew, community and sponsors enough for helping Starlight continue
to bring smiles to sick kids and their families across Queensland and around the country.”

Starlight’s mission is to bring happiness to seriously ill children.

It runs hospital programs including Captain Starlight, the Starlight Express Rooms and digital platform Planet Starlight, which is accessible to seriously ill children via any internet-connected device.

One of the Starlight program’s children was this year’s special guest at the tuf-of-war ebent and even joined in on the action, pulling with one of the teams to loud cheers from the crowd watching on.

Accompanied by his brother and a Starlight representative, they also enjoyed an extensive surface and underground tour to learn about Ernest Henry Operations.
