Indian festival celebrated

Northern Stevedoring Services has recognised an Indian festival symbolising the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over bad and knowledge over ignorance.

NSS Finance Officer Shobna Singh

The Diwali festival is attributed to Hindus and is celebrated by other religions including Jainism and Sikhism.

Our own Shobna Singh, who is based in the finance office, has helped bring the spirit of the festival of lights north sharing delicious homemade treats at the workplace.

Diwali was celebrated in Australia in a number of medium sized venues with live music, Bollywood performances and meditation workshops. One of those was Marvel Stadium, the home of the Melbourne Storm.

Diwali is held over October 20-21 depending on where you live geographically and the sunset time.

Those with sunsets after 5:30 celebrate on October 20 and those with earlier sunsets observe Diwali on October 21.

On behalf of Shobna we hope the joy was shared. May it bring new beginnings, prosperity, and happiness to your home and heart.

Thank you to Shobna for sharing a cultural experience.
