NSS recently said farewell to stevedore Peter Downey after nearly 45 years of service.
Peter’s dedication, wisdom and kindness have left a lasting mark on all of us. We thank him and wish him best in retirement.

EOM for June
Mathew Abel is the NSS Employee of the Month June winner.
The Gladstone based stevedore is setting standards on the most southern NSS facility.
The Dedication reads that Mathew goes above and beyond in assisting with HSE inspections, identifying hazards, rectifying safety concerns and being proactive in training.
“He shows initiative, dedication and leadership and is always willing to assist wherever possible and is a team player.”
Flood damage ease
On the local front NSS donated $500 to flood recovery work through the Salvation Army.
The 2025 floods not only devastated homes and land but also cut off the Bruce highway for weeks, leaving families without access to vital supplies and food.
One of those communities was Crystal Creek where the Crystal Creek Community Hall, in partnership with the Salvation Army and the Australian Army, became a lifeline.
NSS’s donation will help this vital hub. The funds will go towards installing generators for emergency power, upgrading facilities and adding air conditioning.
Horsing around
NSS also donated $500 to the Townsville Show Horse Section. It goes to support one of the feature events in the showjumping held on Sunday afternoon.
As an aside, one event winner winners is Natasha Dunworth on Bilyarra Texas who made 125cm in her last jump. Natasha’s father is NSS Stevedore Mark Dunworth.
