Dedication and innovation win the Month

Northern Stevedoring Services staff rising to the occasion have been recognised.

Port Logistics Team Leader – Transport Darrin ‘Skinny’ Thomas and Stevedore Gary Abraham have been named as February Employees of the Month.

In a show of skill and dedication, Port Logistics Operator Darrin ‘Skinny’ Thomas delivered 17 side loader drops on Friday February 21.

It ensured deliveries were made on time and made a lot of customers very happy Transport Manager Kelly Norris said.

“It’s a high standard,” Kelly said. “Skinny consistently exceeds daily targets for side loader deliveries especially with high volumes of jobs coming in on a weekly basis requiring the side loader.

“Since taking the role of Team Leader – Transport Skinny has completed a variety of roles including helping induct new drivers.

“He sets an example by following NSS policies and procedures at all times. 

Skinny is a great asset to the NSS and Transport team.”

Stevedore Gary Abraham showed initiative by helping make a 50-year process be more effective. 

It represented his whole-hearted approach to his work the  Stevedoring  Manager Scott Neame said.

“Gary was nominated for developing a re-strapping solution for broken copper bundles using existing copper cradles.

“Gary has been great assistance in sharing his wealth of knowledge as an advanced rigger to help improve the working-at-heights training. 

“Gary has also been vital in risk assessing emergency procedures for MHC.” 

Skinny and Gary were awarded a $200 Visa gift card for their efforts.
