Northern Stevedoring Services was proud to join the Clontarf Foundation at Kirwan State High School last Wednesday for its annual awards evening, celebrating the achievements, growth and hard work of the young men involved in the Kirwan Clontarf Academy.
The evening was a fantastic opportunity to recognise students for their achievements throughout the year, particularly those preparing to finish school and take their next steps into employment, training or further education.
The Clontarf Foundation works with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men to support their education, confidence, life skills and employment prospects. Through mentoring, employment support, sport and other activities, the program helps students remain engaged with school while building the skills and connections needed for life beyond the classroom.
NSS is fortunate to work with the Clontarf students throughout the year as part of our ongoing partnership with the Foundation. From industry tours and workplace visits to interview practice and other activities, our team has had plenty of opportunities to get to know the students and help give them some practical exposure to the working world. It also meant there were plenty of familiar faces in the room on Wednesday night, which made it even better to see the boys being recognised for their achievements.
Supporting organisations like Clontarf is an important part of maintaining strong connections with the communities in which we operate. As a North Queensland employer, we see real value in initiatives that help young people understand the opportunities available to them and build pathways into the workforce.
Partnerships between local organisations, schools and industry also give a great opportunity to introduce young people to careers they might not otherwise have considered. Across logistics, transport, stevedoring and the wider maritime industry, there are many different pathways available, and supporting the next generation as they begin exploring those opportunities is something NSS is proud to be involved in.
It was fantastic to see the students recognised for their efforts on the night and to hear about what they have achieved throughout the year. NSS would like to congratulate all the young men recognised on the night and thank the Clontarf team, Kirwan State High School and everyone involved in supporting them throughout the year.
We were proud to be part of the evening and look forward to continuing to support initiatives that invest in young people and strengthen communities across North Queensland.
