Breakfast, lunch and a few conversations over a beer marked R U OK? Day at separate functions held across the Northern Stevedoring Services business recently.
R U OK? is a movement designed to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.
You don’t need to be an expert to reach out if you see a workmate suffering, said NSS Business Support Manager Jade Collins.

The difference was making the effort to be a good friend and a great listener Jade said.
“It’s really about reducing the stigma around mental health and taking a day to encourage conversations and asking ‘R U OK’?.’ she said.
“We spend so much of our time at work, that our workmates are probably the first to notice the signs and sometimes a mate checking in with a mate can make all the difference.
“It’s important to manage mental health not only from a mental health perspective but also for safety.
“When we are stressed it’s easy not be focused on the job, tired and fatigued so we need to be making sure our work colleges are ok.”
